printer defaults outlook/ie

We are having an issue with our printers. We have an espons receipt printer set up (usb) as default and if we choose to print eg from outlook (an email message) it uses the epson defaults instead of the hp defaults and prints receipt size in the middle of the page. It works fine if i choose the hp from word and print. Hp is teling me xp is not passing the driver defaults to the printer and it is an xp issue. is there a way i can force printer settings from the registry or something ???

if you set Hp as the default printer it works fine but since they print 99% of the time on the receipt printers they need to have the epsons as the default...........
