    Hi folks,

    5 PCs:-
    2 Windows Vista
    2 Windows XP
    1 Windows 7

What will be the simple setup for sharing a printer amongst them? Do I need a printer server to do the job?

    TIA

    Depends....

If you attach the printer to a PC that is always on, you can just share the printer on the other computers.

If you want the printer to function independent from any computer, you'll need a network capable printer.

    Hi Arie,

    Thanks for your advice.

If I use the existing USB printer either I have to attach it to a PC running the same as server for sharing or to purchase a printer server, attaching the USB printer to it. However either solution needs to have the devices on permanently.

Alternative to purchase an ethernet printer with standby mode. Then I can attach it to the router, switching it on standby mode.

I wonder whether there will be another simple solution.
