    Hi All,

I am having a very irritating issue on a companies network where for the one user I have to keep starting the print spooler

This office consists of 2 PCs and one laptop. They are all feeding into a netgear firewall ( can't remember what model, either an FVS 114 or an FVS 338)

    PC A is connected to 2 printers;

RICOH aficio 2232c PCL 5c and
    HP Universal Printing PCL 6

These two printers are shared, and the PC B and the laptop access them both from PC A.

Now the laptop keeps losing these printers, and they do not re-appear until I restart the print spooler service!?!?

I have downloaded the most up to date drivers for the printers again and re-installed htem onto PC A.

I then deleted the printers from PC B and the laptop and forced them to download the new drivers.

This resolved the issue for about a fortnight but now it has started happening again.

I also replaced spoolsv.exe file from my machine at a different site and put this onto the laptop, which doesn't seemed to have made the slightest bit of difference.

The laptop is a Dell latitude 1400 running Windows XP Professional version 2002 SP 3.

Please please enlighten me to what else could be causing this....

I am starting to think that it is something to do with some odd software on the laptop as she has a lot of different programs installed for her digital camera, but I have nothing to base that on.

Any help will be much appreciated.

    Kind Regards

Are the desktops running XP also?

    If so, on all computers:
Control Panel > Folder Options > View tab > checkmark Auto search for network folders & printers.

Control Panel > Admin Tools > Serviices > set these services to Automatic:
    Computer Browser
    Print Spooler
    Server

What exactly is the HP printer model that's being used?
    These are drivers, not printers:
    HP Universal Printing PCL 6

That Ricoh has a network port and should be connected to the Netgear router, that way the computers are not dependant upon each other for printing. If the HP has a network port then that too should connect to the router (or a switch). This type of network print setup is the most efficient and trouble free.

Thanks for the reply. All machines are running XP and the HP printer being used is an HP 1160

Your suggested set up does seem most efficient and trouble free, but I would expect problems to occur on the PC that has the two printers connected to it as it is doing most of the work. Not for a connected PC to have the problem.

And as it is always only the laptop, could it not be something more specific to the laptop that is causing this??

    Thanks

If the laptop ever hybernates then that can cause the printer disconnects. Hybernation has always been bugged.
