I have one Win2k Pro and a couple of WinXP Pro machines. They are networked and all get on the internet. I want to share 2 printers for all of them. Right now the printers are connected to the Win2k box. I'd rather have them connected to the lan directly.

I know I need a print server of some kind but have no idea of what to look for. The printers are a Lexmark Optra M410 (parallel) and Epson Photo 780 (usb).

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Saw this too late tonight but if no suggestions soon I'll take a look and recommend something. Problem will be finding a print server that takes both parallel and USB and doesn't cost a small fortune.

I think HP print servers are hard to beat. Very reliable and easy to use. However as Newt says and this page shows, price is the issue.

If this is a business, I would argue that the robustness and reliability of HP print servers makes them a very worthwhile investment. My experience of them is that you install them and they just get on with the job.

If you are on a tight budget, have you thought of the old idea of using an old end of life PC as a print server?

Unfortunately I don't have an old pc to dedicate to this job, which is just for home use. I have found several choices at or under $100 (on newegg), so the HPs are on the high side for me.

Is there a meaningful spec I should be looking for? Or a brand, or model, I should avoid?
