When my Canon BJC-2110 printer prints a page, the black print is really blurry and the lines looks broken up,the color print is fine. I have cleaned the jets several times and taken the print head out and cleaned it as well. The only way I can get good print is to set the print quality very high, and then it takes a very long time to print. Is there something I can get to fix it(or clean it better), or should I just buy a new printer. The printer is only about three years old, and has had moderate use. Thanks for any help:)

shelleyjk - Welcome to the Board :)

This sounds like a print head problem to me with some blocked jets - no doubt you print far more in black than colour.

It is possible that the cartridge is a bit iffy - have you tried changing the black one?

I am not familiar with Cannon printers - they work on a different principle to the Epson I use, but I would look at the possibility of getting hold of a cleaning cartridge - they are available for Epson, probably for Canon too.

If you have a major print head problem necessitating a replacement it will probably be more economic to replace the printer.

    PeteC,

Thanks for responding:) You're correct about me using the black ink a lot more than color. I have replaced the ink cartridge several times(the current one is either the second or third replacement). I buy them from a discount place on the internet(I won't say who), I was wondering if maybe they are bad. I will go buy a full priced cartridge and try that before buying a new printer. What should I look for in a inkjet cleaner? The only thing I can find are laser printer cleaning sheets, and they won't work in my printer:(

If you look on the site of your internet supplier for compatible ink jet cartridges the odds are that you will find cleaning cartridges on offer. Certainly available over here for the Epson range, not that I have had cause to use one.

Hi! Thanks for the further info. I went to the Website that I purchase my Ink Cartridges from and a couple of large office supply chains and none of them have Ink Jet Cartridge Cleaners. However, on the site where I purchase my cartridges, they say to soak the print head in a 1/2" of warm water for a few minutes to dislodge any dried ink. I tried that and it didn't work. It looks like its time to shop for a new printer:(

    Hi ShelleyJK,

A question - Has this problem just started with this present black cartridge, or have you noticed it for a while?
I use Canon printers, I have two, and always use "compatible" inks. Having two printers by the way, has often helped me diagnose problems quite quickly.
I have had only one problem in four years of using these inks, and that was the fault of a "compatible" cartridge. I had refilled it four or five times, and then I started to get the same problem as you are experiencing. It turned out to be the cartridge, not the ink or the print head.
There is a small rubber or plastic pad on the bottom of the ink cartridge, which transfers the ink to the print head as required, I suppose by capillary action. This pad was throttling the ink flow, and a change of cartridge fixed the problem.

    Check like this:
Press each cartridge onto a pad of absorbent paper such as a folded Kleenex.
Good cartridges will make a large ink stain in a second or so, as large as, or bigger than the size of the pad.
If the ink supply is being throttled, the stain will be much smaller.

    Hope this helps.

    Roger
