    Hello..

So, I'm trying to figure out what exactly I need to do to fix this silly problem. Everytime I go to print anything in Internet Explorer, I get a window pop up that says:

"An error occurred during this operation. "

Obviously it doesn't print. This has only recently started (like 5 days). I've tried to uninstall IE7 and reinstall it with no success.

I've switched over to FireFox and it works fine. But the website that is essential to our business only works (nice, huh?) with IE.

    Please help?!?

    ptharris47ix - Welcome to the Board :)

As you might expect there is no straightforward answer to this problem, but a few questions and suggestions ....

I guess you are running XP as you indicate that you uninstalled and reinstalled IE7? This is not possible in Vista.

When you uninstalled IE7 you rolled back to IE6 - did you check out the printing in IE6?

As you can print with Firefox it is unlikely to be a printer problem.

You say that the problem started ~5 days ago - this coincides with Patch Tuesday - Aug 12 when two relevant updates were supplied ......

Cumulative Security Update for Windows Internet Explorer 7 (KB953838)

Cumulative Security Update for ActiveX Killbits (KB953839)

I wonder if either of those induced your problem. Both can be uninstalled through Add/Remove Programs - check show updates and note that IE7 is listed as Windows Internet Explorer 7, not Internet Explorer 7 - this fools a number of people :)

I suggest you first uninstall the IE update and test and if that does not resolve the problem uninstall the ActiveX update and test.

Thanks for the help, PeteC. Unfortunately, that didn't fix the issue. However, I posted the same issue at another site and they recommended make a new user account and see if that helps. So far, I load IE7 (under this new account) and I get this new error message at start:

Windows cannot load the Internet configuration library (ICFGNT.DLL). The following error occurred: The specified procedure could not be found.

I just reset the computer after all that and I'm right back to where I was. So, the score is COMPUTER: 2 ME: 0

This is just so frustrating. It's ONLY in IE7. My goodness. I did not try to print when it reversed to IE6, just hadn't think about it. I'll give'r another swing. At this point, I've got to try everything I can do to make this work.

Thanks again for the help. If you've got any more ideas, please lay them on me. I'm still banging my head against the wall. Too much more, and this laptop will find itself at the bottom of my pond.

    Regards,

    Patrick

Another thought - try a System Restore back to a date on which printing was possible.

Still no luck. I even stripped every update back to June. Still nothing. The pond option is starting to look much more attractive as the hour goes on.

Reinstall Windows maybe? I don't know what that might fix, but maybe a fresh blanket of files might help?

A repair install is worth a try, but uninstall IE 7 first as it will not be on your CD. Note you require a retail CD to Repair not a Recovery CD. Any retail XP CD of the same flavour, i.e. Home or Pro, should do.

You cannot let a box of chips beat you :)
