When I open a .doc file and click on File/Print, the print dialog box is hidden behind the document that I have open. The box in the task bar will flash at me until I click it and then the print dialog box appears. If I click File/Print again, the dialog box will be on top and will continue to work that way until I close the .doc file and reopen it. When I reopen it I have to go through the same thing again the first time I want the print dialog box.

The Page Setup also works the same way. I suspect some of the other functions under File will be the same way.

If I click the Print icon in the toolbar it will print at once.

I have MS Office 2000 installed.

I have not noticed this happening with any other type file.

Anyone have a suggestion of how to get the dialog box to open on top the first time.

    Thanks

    Daniel

This may well be a bug in Word 2000 - I have encountered this problem on 2 m'c's, my own included running XP Pro and using 2 monitors - the relevance here is that the dialogue box pops up on the other screen regardless of whether or not the second monitor is on or off.

You could try a Repair of Office 2000.

    Pete

I tried repairing Office 2000 and it had no effect on this problem. I have also looked everywhere I know to look in MS Word to find a place to uncheck something like "keep this page on top" and have not found anything.

Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thanks

Another discussion of the same problem on this page with a link to another discussion of the same problem on another forum which has a post with yet another link to a discussion of the same problem.

Nobody's found a fix yet although plenty of people seem to be experiencing it. Maybe something in one of those discussions will provide a clue about a fix, though.

    Good find, Indmusic.

I hadn't noticed the problem in Word 2003 to which I recently upgraded, but on checking NAV 2004 found that I had disabled the Office Plug in anyway.

That may be the/an answer :)

    Indmusic,

Thank you very, very much. Problem is solved.

I had searched the MS Knowlege Base but had not found that article.

I had discovered that if I delete all the "normal.dot" files and let them be recreated at restart, the first time I would open a .doc file it would work properly. However when I closed it and opened it or another .doc file, the problem was back.

Thanks again to all on this board who have helped me solve several issues with my new computer and WinXP.

    Daniel
