Since this morning my cd-rom and dvd-rom don't work anymore. Thought i had re-install my scsi and raid-controller, because there was a "!" on it. Then the trouble came, off course i don't know the product name, i tried several but nothing works. And now if i restart my pc on booting i get "primary slave incompatible, press F1 to resume" I have a backup from acronis, thought i would use this one, but my cd-rom doesn't work, so i cannot boot from cd.

You do not need any special software to read a data DVD such as your game.

When you insert the DVD into your DVD-ROM does it show up in Windows Explorer?

If it does it would seem that the Autoplay function is not working. Open up the DVD in Windows Explorer and look for setup.exe or a similar setup file and double click on it to instal the game.

If the drive does not recognise a DVD at all it may have developed a fault, but it would be worth uninstalling it through Device Manager and rebooting to allow Windows to find it again.

How to Troubleshoot Issues with Reading CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and DVD Discs
    Have you done this?

Another thought - after you have done the above - run System File Checker ....

Start > Run > type in sfc /scannow note the space and have your XP CD handy. SFC will run and exit without any closing dialogue. To see which files, if any, were replaced look in Event Viewer

yep, uninstalled and re-installed the drive again, didn't help
now ran the scannow, he askes to insert the windows xp professional cd for copying a dll file, but i don't have professional, i have the home edition

the problem from my original topic isn't solved either, i just have put in my bios the primary slave to "not installed" so i don't get the faul anymore

actually the problems began when the fan of my videocard began to make al lot of noise, could that have something to do with it? maybe cause it doens't cool properly or so? i am getting depressed, never had this problems before

Let's start over on this one - the more times I read your post the more confused I become ....
    Are you using Raid?
Is the primary slave part of a RAID setup?
If you are using RAID is the controller on a plug in card or built into the motherboard?
What are you running on SCSI?
Which Operating System are you using?
How did you do that if your CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives were not working?

i removed the cd-rom and re-installed it again and then after a while it suddenly worked again. really strange, when i put the windows cd rom in the drive and restarted my pc, then it wouldn't run from cd because each time at startup it said from primary slave incompatible, press F1 to resume. And after pressing F1 windows started from hard drive and not the cd. When i changed the settings in my bios to primary slave "not installed" then it started from cd and so i could re-install windows again on the c drive, while keeping my d drive where my data is on.

After re-installing Windows no SCSI or RAID hardware appeared, so i don't understand why it was mentioned before re-installing.

I am using Windows XP home Edition. I was thinking of a virus, but scanned with EZ trust and housecall, and nothing is found. Could it be a virus in my BIOS maybe? I have re-installed Windows many times, not only for me but for friends also, and normally i can get everything fixed, but now i don't know what to do. Guess i have to bring it to a shop to get it fixed.

A question which I should have asked earlier ....

What is the primary slave - hard drive, optical drive or ....?

    Primary IDE Master= Maxtor HDD
Primary IDE Slave= set on auto "LG DVD-rom "
Secondary IDE Master= LG CD RW
    Secondary IDE Slave=not installed

Now just at my first startup today i could open my computer, and DTM Race Driver 2 was mentioned on my DVD icon, when i clicked on it it opened, but when i clicked on install it said you don't have authorization to open. I opened the DVD rom drive and closed it again, and then it kept on loading a few moments and then said "put a DVD or other medium in drive F "

Maybe this is worth mentioning: i have a A "floppy disc drive "
C "hard disc drive where Windows is on "
D "hard disc drive with my data "
E "hard disc drive backup from Acronis True Image "
    F "DVD-ROM drive
    G "CD RW drive "

Open up the case and set the jumper on the DVD-ROM drive to slave.

If this doesn't help leave it as slave, but hitch it up to the spare connector of the CD-ROM drive so that it becomes the Secondary Slave.

the jumper was already set as slave, and there is no spare connection on my cd-rom. i don't get it, i have this pc 2 and a half years and never had problems till now. Could it be a virus in my bios maybe? Because everytime the primary slave gives another description; then LG DVD rom dàD, then LG DVD rom DaL, then DVD rom ***, everytime when ik look in my bios the *** after rom gives something else.... I think i am going to take my pc to the shop, because i am getting crazy of this. But i would like to thank you very much for your time. Windowsbbs is a great forum for trouble. A pitty i couldn't get it fixed.

Have you tried the drive in another system that has no problems?

Have you tried another drive in yours?

With the different discriptions being given I have to suspect a drive problem... or (not likely) a bios problem.

If you haven't tried the drive in another system do so if possible. If the drive is fine you could try loading failsafe settings in your bios. My be called other than failsafe...
