From a post by Abraxas many moons ago ....

"Windows XP monitors the files that are used when the computer starts and when you start applications. By monitoring these files, Windows XP can prefetch them. Prefetching data is the process whereby data that is expected to be requested is read ahead into the cache. Prefetching boot files and applications decreases the time needed to start Windows XP and start applications. "

the prefetch data is saved as a *.pf file in the Prefetch folder.

Search the XP forum for further info - and views, on 'prefetch'

I just used the program which extract file into Windows temporary directory, then run it. In Windows-98 this file was extracted in C:\WINDOWS\TEMP; but in Windows XP I have no find this file, but find some Prefetch file with my file name(not file itself)
