I was trying to help a friend with a problem opening PPS files in his e-mail - Windows 7 Home and Windows Live Mail. When we try to open the files directly in the e-mail we get the message the there is no program to open them.

Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer is installed and is the program shown in the file association list as the applicable program to open PPS files. If we save the PPS files into My Documents and double click them there, they open via PowerPoint Viewer and all is fine. Anyone have an suggestions for what could be wrong in the e-mail program?

Sorry if I appear to be enjoying talking to myself - started the thread and am the only poster. I used the link that Goddez1 referred to and got the problem fixed. Next time I will try to do a bit more research before starting a thread - although I did a search on this Board but came up empty. I guess I need a tutorial on searching.

Thanks for letting us know, perhaps future users searching will find your thread first and follow through to Ann's :)

Regarding a comment in the other thread I'm fairly sure it's because the default action is "View" rather than "Open ", perhaps windows live isn't using default actions but searching for keywords (ie "open "). Any MVP opinion?
