After considerable discussion in the Eudora email client forum, it was concluded that this problem relates to Windows rather than to Eudora.

Since installed several years ago in my Windows XP Home Sp3 computer, the Eudora client has always opened file attachments such as jpg, doc, gif, etc. in the appropriate programs. However, after installing the Windows pps viewer it will not open pps files. It still opens all the other files appropriately.

Windows Explorer always opens all files, including pps, in the desired program. All file extensions behave as desired. However, if you left click a pps file attachment in Eudora, you get a pop up message which reads as follows: In the blue band across the top of the popup it reads "d:\eudora\attach\[name of file.pps] followed by a red square with a white X in it. In the white area of the popup it reads: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." Then there is an "OK" box. When you go to the Folder Options control panel to establish an association it doesn’t fix anything, because the association has already been created. As far as Windows Explorer is concerned everything is fine. If you right click a pps file attachment in Eudora you get an "open with" menu (which looks like the one in Explorer) which shows the pps viewer as the preferred choice and when selected it opens the file appropriately in the pps viewer.

It appears as though Windows knows the pps viewer is there but Eudora does not. However, I am told that Eudora has no "brains" of its own and merely states what it finds elsewhere, possibly in the registry.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on and how to repair it?
