Edit: Sorry, I've finally got the problem fixed.

It was a matter of doing a few registry edits and all is well now...

I have been having a problem with the MicroSoft Power point viewer for quite
sometime on one computer and just recently I started having exactly the very
    same problem on a second.

Both systems are P4, Win XP, SP2, 512 megs mem... Both are using Windows
    Live Mail v.2008 (Build 12.0.1606)

The problem I am having is when ever I receive a email that has a powerpoint
(PPS) attached it will not allow me to view it. It tells me I need to create
a file association in the folder options menu (see attached pic).

I have checked the associations and they are there. Does anyone have any
idea how I can fix this?

Originally it was only happening on one computer, but like I said now its 2
computers. Both computers were using 2003, but in an effort to try and fix
it, I uninstalled 2003 from 1 computer and installed powerpoint viewer 2007,
but it still has the exact same problem.

Also I compared ALL settings to a 3rd computer and all settings (file
    associations etc) are identical.

Does anybody have any idea how to fix this problem?

I don't have a fix for you and I have the same problem. I found if I saved the file to my hard drive and then that file would open in the power point viewer.
