    Hello,

I am trying to setup two machines that will access the Internet using the same DSL account.

I have SBC Global, which uses PPPOE, and I have EnterNet 300 installed on a Windows 2000 machine, and RASPPPOE on a Windows 98 box. I have a hub that connects the two machines to my modem (I would prefer a switch or router). Both machines connect on their own, but when I try to connect from one when the other is already connected, the connection times-out.

Is this because I am using a hub? If I purchase a router with PPPOE support, will this rectify the problem?

    Thank you.

Are you using the same Subnet for both?
    What are the specific settings?

Hi I think a router would solve your problem and share the connection with both pc's.

I don't think a simple hub has network address translation.
    Or DHCP service.

With the hub only one pc could get on at a time.

But a router will assign both pc's a network address and route the signals to the correct one.

On pppoe connections the router might have trouble connecting to the dsl network , if so you might have to enter the physical address of the network card from your pc in the router settings.

The address is in ipcfg settings.

    hope this helps

    Rookie,

    Sorry for the delayed reply.

I purchased a Netgear MR814 wireless router -- on sale for $80.00 at Circuit City:) I think it's normally $130.00.

It was very easy to install and configure. As I mentioned in my orginal post, I have two machines, one Windows 98, which has been upgraded to XP and another running Windows 2000. The Windows 2000 machine is connected directly to the router... no problems there, and the other uses the wireless connection. I am using 128 bit WEP and enabled the "wireless access card" feature on the router for additional security (of course, this setting only allows machines with the appropriate MAC address to connect to my network).

Thanks again for all the help.
