On a "backup" computer, I was about to FDISK a Hard Drive, when everything went blank. Monitor turned off but HD green light was still on. Tried to reboot but on/off switch no longer works as well as reset button does not work. To turn system off I have to either unplug from outlet or hit stiwch on back of system. Tried turning system back on several times but nothing happens (there's no booting going on, zippo) only the green hd light comes on and a few times a RED Ligt (near the reset button) came on then goes out.

Since the on/off switch or reset button won't work, could this be the power supply?

It was working fine before this.

The fans are running, the green power indicator light comes on, no post beep, there's no activity at all.

It's frustrating not to get any answers to a question, so I will try to give you some possible reasons. I thought maybe someone with more expertise than I would try to answer your post, but they haven't so far. :) I'm not real good with the hardware stuff.

Both the CPU, & Power Supply fans are running?? Correct??

Do you smell any kind of an electrical odor when you try to power up? If so, the Power Supply is probably going bye-bye.

You could have a short in the switches on the front. Seems unlikely, but possible.

Are you sure the Monitor didn't blow? Hook it up to another comp, & see if it is still good.

A dying Motherboard could very well be the problem.

I'm sorry to say that with this scenario, it would seem that most anything is possible.

That's the best I can think of. Maybe someone else will jump in here with something for you.
