Am working on a Dell Dimension 2400 that got hit by lightning. Client when talking to Dell Support they made a decision that the system board needed replacement because nothing was turning on. Well he was right nothing was turning on and so the first thing I did was hocked up my power supply tester and it was dead as a door nail. Unfortunately, Dell sent client a system board when first they should have sent a power supply. Anyway when looking at the power supply there are no codes on the psu to search on the web for a replacement. The model number on the psu says hp-p2007F3 and its a 200w unit. Normally, I search the web for the number on the psu and get the replacement psu but am getting no hits on the numbers on the psu.

Have searched for "power supply for dimension 2400" and get a lot of hits and prices ranging from 10.00 up to 3 figures for a 460w unit. This machine doesnt need a unit with that horse power. So my question because I always use the model number for a replacement what would be a good say 300 - 350w unit for this machine. Web sites i've looked at are startech.com, xpcgear.com and even compusa. Will these units work in this dimension 2400. Dell support wasnt much help besides she didnt even know what a psu was to start with. First time been disappointed in Dell support.

    I would appreciate any advise.

    Hey gghartman...

Read this post. Good read...mentions some problems with Dell PSU's...
The post also has this link to PC Power and Cooling and they list Dell power supplies including your 2400.

thanks for you post very interesting reading. i did check out pc cooling but to me it seemed their prices were a little high. I was surprised that the psu for dell machines are that unique ( a nice word ). i guess the safest thing to do for this client is to get one from Dell but will see what their prices are first and if the same as pc cooling then i guess i will get it from dell.

thanks again. hp, gateway, compaq are easy psu's to replace. i am surprised by the dell cuz i do like their machines.
