I Posted prior about the compaq presario 7940 upgrade. I went to a local computer store and bought a 350 watt power supply, I installed it into my computer and it wouldn't work.

I took it back and they said I needed the workaround for the push button connection on the front of my computer to start it. I reinstalled my old one, fine. I think the problem is that the power-on button connected to the motherboard must be the problemon the new power supply. Is there anyone who did this before, please advise.

    Thanks, jongru...

Is this the person that is replacing a 200w?
If so is your board AT or ATX? The power supply connects to the female jack on the board & the power on switch connects to the mainboard, on ATX interface. A momintary switch, push but doesn't click like a toggle would, is on the newer cases & goes to two pins on board. Now.....you prolly have the hard switch (click) rite?

    Power Supply replacement

    Hi Rancher,

Thanks for the input, I believe my push button on the front of my compaq is the newest type power on switch. From what I am reading from other compaq users is that the cable connectors have about 21 pins. I don't know how many are actually used. I would still like to keep the button in use. Just need to know if there is a workaround or modification to the motherboard plug from the normal atx power supplies....thanks...jongru
