For ten years I "shut down" Windows 98se. Windows 7 has a "sleep" mode. Should I continue to shut down at night or use the "sleep "mode? What is reccomended? Does the "sleep mode" shorten the life of the PC? Please advise. Thanks for your time.

    Make it a great day,
    Lis

A senior moment? :) You tagged onto a totally unrelated thread - your post moved to a new thread.

For the last 20+ years I have turned off my PC at night. Hibernate was always unreliable - sleep is very similar. When you appreciate what goes on when the computer wakes it can be very iffy. My opinion - others may not agree :)

I agree and practice the same as PeteC ... but if you try to explain the above to a teenager you will get the "rolling eyes" and the "what's your point" response.
