Sounds like you have a short circuit. Take out the disk and start over. If you haven't, check all the cables to be sure nothing has come loose. Make sure the ribbon cable has the stripe along its side on the side toward the power cable. Also turn the box over so the opening is down to make sure no hardware has been left inside. Then see if it will power up.

    powerpack

im not sure what is happening
but i posted this 2hrs ago

and when i sent the post. i got an error message
    this has happened several times
.i belong to another board .
and they are having the same trouble.

ok i did as you instructed
and i took all the cards and components out
    all but the mobo .

then i replaced them back one by one.
the power pack was the one i was worried about
but once i installed the hardware.
    i pressed the power button.
and bingo it was away .
i cannot tell you what was the matter with it .
it is going and thats what matters.
the compt dosent belong to me, it is a friends
and he loaned it to me.
ive solved quite a few problems because of it
but this time i thought it was history.
how ever thanks for your input .
im not a fan of win 98
but it does serve its purpose.
