Hi, I have a problem with the way my computer reacts to the settings i put in my power management options. I am currently using the balanced power option, and when it hits the limit when the display is supposed to turn off it does fine, but when it hits the sleep limit it doesn't work; the hard drive stays on and the sleep button is on. In contrast, if I manually put the computer to sleep i.e. i push the sleep button, it works fine; I can hear the hard drive go off and the sleep button blinks. Any help would be appreciated.

Just use the 'Always on' Function if your on a desktop, And just set the PC to turn off the monitor for awhile. if not RAM is required for it to go to Hibernate. Best ram setting: 256 [512 or 1GB reccomended or more]

i don't like to turn off my computer, so i would like it to sleep the way it is supposed to. is there something that would prevent my notebook from sleeping. I can hear it try to sleep; kind of stalls a little and then speeds up; it does this over and over like it is confused on how to sleep. Or in other words it seems that just before it finally sleeps it will then go back on at the last minute; like there is some kind of conflict.

Try shutting down all backround programs that are running in the system tray in the taskbar (especially anti virus scanners). One of those backround programs might be causing the computer to not go into sleep mode at the requested time.

What's up, I finally solved my problem. There is a setting in the advanced power management options under multimedia settings...when sharing media. The default setting doesn't work for my notebook, so I changed it to "allow the computer to sleep." I also downloaded the current display driver which I would of done a long time ago if I new one existed. Point being, those automatic update programs don't always find everything.

Thanks , I feel allot better now that i am helping to save energy. Without any power management, I had to shut down my notebook all the time during breaks. Now I can just let it sleep which is cool cause it's super fast to resume working. I can't believe the default setting was causing my computer not to sleep. Oh well live and learn I guess.
