Hi All, I've edited the default power settings to my specification, which is to turn the monitor off after 10 minutes, put the computer to sleep after 30 minutes and to go to sleep when I hit the power button.

When I hit the power button my PC goes to sleep for about 15 seconds & then resumes itself! when I disable my network card it stays in sleep mode.

I'm thinking there is malicious software on my system??? so I go into safe mode & do a full scan using MalwareBytes (full definition updates are downloaded) and it come's back clean.

I then go into the power management on my Realtek network card and uncheck "Allow this device to wake the computer" and leave "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power ".

It then stays asleep as per the edited power plan. My question is this, Why is it resuming on it's own? is this a sign of malicious software?

Other things I have done. Disabled Utorrent settings to allow my PC to sleep.

    Any thoughts would be appericated.

    Cheers

Your pc is always communicating with the router/modem... Apparently this is just enough to keep the pc awake.

I see, so if I'm using port forwarding (which I am) this would be enough to keep it from sleeping.....Which leads me to remote desktop, if my PC is sleeping I can't remote to it from another network? unless I use M a g i c P a c k e ts??? to wake it??? this is new territory for me so any pointers would be appreciated.

Wake-on-LAN (WOL) is an Ethernet computer networking standard that allows a computer to be turned on (woken up) by a network message called a magic packet.
