I am puzzled as to where to connect the front-panel connector that is labeled "green LED ". My mobo is a P4VXAD (PC Chips?) and has two connector blocks PANEL and LPANEL. The "green LED" connector has a 3-pin plug with the two outside pins having wires (the middle is empty). There does not appear to be a set of pins on the PANEL block to accomodate the 3 pin plug. Instead I plugged everything on the LPANEL block and now the front panel power (green) LED is always lit even if the power is turned off by the front power switch. For ref. the mobo is decribed in detail at: http://www.amptron.com/html/P4VXAD.html
    Advice appreciated.

I see what you describe frequently. If I want it to work bad enough, I get out my xacto knife and whittle down the three-pin connector to two pins. Then I place the other wire into the blank hole that used to be the empty center.

Case manufacturers and board manufacturers aren't always together on this one.

I had to cut the plug on a PC I built once like Alex Ethridge suggested and it's still working today. Just be sure to observe the polarity (+, -) of the LED.

Like bubba said, getting the polarity right is important. But, you won't damage anything if you happen to get it backwards the first try; it just won't work.

    Yeah let me clarify

The frist time I plugged mine in it didn't work so I just swapped the wires then it went to working fine and as I said earlier it still works and this was a little over 1 1/2 years ago.

o.k. I'm convinced. I guess there's nothing sacred about the number of pins on a connector. I have one system thats never seen a green power LED because I never was sure what to do with it. Sure would be nice if there was some industry standard tho....

I agree 100% with that. It drives me crazy to buy brand new stuff then have to "make" it fit. Oh well maybe one day.

Well, it won't be long before all computers will be like VCRs; what you get in it will be what stays in it and if you want better, well, you'll just buy another.

When I was in my teens, there was as much room under the hood of a car as there is empty space in most computer cases. I could actually stand inside under the hood with my feet on the ground and do some work on some in-line, six-cylinder engines. And they were simple--no electronic timing, no pollution control, no brain box. And the only tubing I had to deal with was the gas line.

Now, you can't even see the spark plugs on most cars without a dental mirror. And you can't even see the ground, let alone stand in there.

Computers are headed in that direction, too. Then you won't have to worry about connecting anything because you won't even be able to look inside because there won't be any space to see anything at all--that is if you can even open the case.

Yeah I agree and to futher prove your point look at this link: http://www.littlepc.com/ a PC the size of a CD-Rom drive. I'll bet it's a tight fit in there.
