I have received several emails with a subject line that reads "Re: FW: FW: Fw: PLEEEEEASE READ!!!!!! it was on the news! ". I have searched Norton and McAfee sites and can find nothing. This may be a hoax, but it comes with a file attached and I recognize some of the email addresses in the "To" box. The closest I can find to this is an old hoax that had the phrase "PLEEEEEASE READ" in the subject line, but I don't want to assume this is a harmless file. Does anyone have any info on this?

Sorry, but I deleted the emails and emptied the deleted folder. If I get another I'll post back with that info. I've gotten 3 in the last week.

I have never heard of a self-mailing virus which shows multiple forwardings. I'd, therefore, guess that if your AV gives the attachments a clean bill of health then it *probably* is clean. But then again ...

The best case scenario is that it's a joke; the worst case scenario is that it's something which could flash your BIOS and turn your HD into a doorstep

    I'd delete it!

Do a search for the phrases "PLEEEEEASE READ" "it was on the news!" at http://groups.google.com and see what you come up with.

It's probably your typical hoax e-mail chain letter. The attachment is most likely the nested forwarded e-mails.

Thanks, everyone, for your replies! It would appear to be a chain mail type solicitation. Whatever it is, it gets deleted without being read everytime I receive it.

    Thanks again!
