I'm only new to computers but am learning a lot fast because of this problem:

I recently bought a Microtek Take-it MV 300 Digital Camcorder, I run (what i think is ) Windows 2000 Professional on a Packard Bell Pentium 3. When i tried to install the camera using the USB Connection the camera switches itself off. I know that it is not a fault with the camera itself as it works on my partners laptop which runs Windows XP.

If i hold down the on/off switch on the camera i get a message on the screen saying that i have unplugged hardware incorrectly, but the camera switches itself off even when i hold it down.

I have contacted both the manafacturer as well as microsoft and no one seems to be able to help me, one guy said that it might be a problem with the 1394 System driver but windows no longer carry any downloads for it directly of their site.

If anybody has any ideas i'd really appreciate the advice, I'm going a little nuts trying to fix it.

    Thanks heaps Raelz

I would suggest that you try windrivers or driversguide they both are a good source for the drivers I have needed. Not sure about the shutting down since you say it works on a neighbors computer. Mine will shut down unless it is on external power whne I am downloading but not sure if the camera you are using is similar.

Microtek don't have (or need) a W2K driver, so I would check your local machine. Are other USB devices working correctly?

Is USB correctly enabled in BIOS?

Are there USB drivers in the Device manager? R click My Computer/Properties/Hardware/Device Manager

Check the Packard Bell Web site for any updated USB drivers either as standalone drivers or as part of any motherboard driver updates. You will need to establish the exact model number of the PC so you can get the correct drivers, if any.
