Possible to split a large file?

I have a large file currently sitting in a .zip on my harddrive. The file is 6.4GB, and the .zip takes it to about 6.1GB. The file is an ISO. My company sent it to me to install so I could connect to the computer from home, and I have no clue as to why it's such a huge file. However, the company computers took a turn for the worse, and they lost the file. So I and one other person has this 6.4GB file.

Is there a way I can split this into two so that I can fit it onto two DVDs? Like 3.2 on one DVD and 3.2 on another? Is there such a program I can use to break it apart, and then one to reconstruct it?

JPaterson000--It is not too clear why you want to split this file up. You can burn it as is to another DVD if your company requires copies.
If you have WinZip, it has what WZ calls "Spanning ". Look into WinZip's Help to learn the procedure to do that.
Spanning basically means splitting a large amount of data over several CD's, DVD's, floppies, etc.
I have never done it with data already on a DVD. I suspect you will have to Extract the data from the DVD to your hard drive, and then re-zip it using spanning to split it up.
There also are many other file splitter programs, but until you tell us what you are trying to do, it may not be fruitful to go into details.

What would be easier to do is to use a dual layer DVD if your DVD drive is capable of writing one.

I only have standard 4.7GB blank CDs, and I can only buy the higher capacity DVD in stacks of 25, which is pointless as I will never such a high capacity for myself. And my company is contesting that because I requested access so I can work from home, I am responsible for making the copy to bring back to the office.

Basically, it's an extremely large program and I want it saved to a single DVD, if possible, without using a high capacity DVD.

I tried that WinZip feature and it wouldn't split it over two 4.7 DVDs, saying the capacity on either DVD is not enough for the file.

A portion of the ISO is locked, too, and knowing the boss at work, I wouldn't be at all surprised if there is also a game on it somewhere. Because for the life of me, I cannot think of a single game in the history of PC gaming that has required more than one DVD for the game itself (not including bonus DVDs with behind-the-scenes or extras or whatever).

But yeah, basically I want to split up the file into two equal sizes so I can fit "Part 1" on a DVD and "Part 2" on a second.

Take those guys who sell VCDs at flea markets, for example. The movie file is too big one for CD, so they split it over two of them.

Any backup program that will let you back up to DVD will automatically split the files in to 2 files ( or more if needed ). I use Nero 6.6 for that. After that, just restore it (with Nero) to the other Computer.

Go to MajorGeeks.com and download a trial version and see if that works for you.

My favorite file splitter is Chainsaw. The nice thing about it is you don't have to have the program to restore the file. When it splits the file it also creates a batch file. Just double click on it and the file is put back together again. No need to install any program on the computer you're restoring the file on.
