On 17 November, I mailed a gift package to family members in Japan. This is a routine thing for us and we've never had a problem.

A few days later, I got an e-mail from an addressee that looked like the US Postal Service. The message was that a package I had recently mailed had failed to deliver on Nov 20th because the address couldn't be identified. The message said "Click on the link below for a detailed report ".

I clicked on the icon and my security software lit up like Las Vegas. It denied opening of the program which turned out to have a ".exe" extension.

I tried to print the e-mail, but printing was denied.

Has anyone else had this message? Maybe a warning should go out. Is there a central cyber-warning site I can send an alert to?

There is a Govt. site that you can forward it to. I for the life of me can't find it and had it bookmarked. Will keep looking. Found it. Just forward it and put SPAM/Malware as the Subject.

This is nothing new & can be traced back at least 3 years: http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/ups.asp

Once you notice it contains an infected EXE attachment, why on earth would you want to try & print it?

Also see the big RED warning on the USPS site (you went there to check right?)

    https://www.usps.com/

I find it rather stupid of them to put their warning in a PDF file instead of a normal web page (shows how much brain they have)... but here you go:

Thanks, Arie. I dodged a bullet that time. I'll set this query to "Resolved ". BTW, the report icon didn't identify itself as a .exe until it was clicked. I should know better!!
