I just obtained a retail copy of XP Pro (32) which I suspect maybe a fake. Now checking the CoA on the box against the diagrams of CoA's on Microsoft.com 'How to Tell' page, this copy has a August 2004 shaped label, but has a December 2006 metallic strip which doesn't look to be interwoven.

Well, I'd say I was reasonably sure that this may be a fake, but to confirm it, I'd just like to check against the CoA's in the Counterfiet Gallery in the 'How to Tell' page, but since I'm using ME at this point (I've misplaced my XP Home Ed), I still cannot use Silverlight to view them.

Now, doe's anyone know if they are posted anywhere else ?

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

You are right - Silverlight is needed which, IMHO, is counterproductive to MS's interests.

Do you not have a friend with a computer on which you can view the gallery?

I'm afraid to say Pete, no one I know can load Silverlight. We all need to upgrade.

I can't find the gallery reproduced on any site other than Microsoft's - which requires Silverlight.

Loaded Silverlight, but the way in which the examples are shown with animation makes it impossible to take a meaningful screenshot.

Pete, if your still there, could you do a qiuck cross check of the fakes in the Countrfiet Gallery with the description given in the original post. If not I'll just sleep on it and I'll try and find someone, somewhere with W7 and has loaded Silverlight. Thanks anyway.

Try this website for COA's - if you need further help post back and I'll see what I can snip on the MS page.

Pete, I've read through the pages on the site and all the links take you back to the MS 'How to Tell' or the Windows Genuine Advantage' pages. I'll just have too wait till Monday and I'll try to find somewhere. I would really like to be absolutely sure before I started to cry Fake. Thanks for your time.

Place the CD in your drive. If the window pops up for installation exit the window. Open My Computer and right click on the CD/DVD drive and then select Open. If there are files Last Session.ini & Last Session_u.ini it is most likely pirated. Also if you open the I386 folder you can look in the SVCPACK folder to see if there are WGANotify files. These are for cracking WGA. Another file found is the SVCPACK folder is updata.exe. This file is a trojan found on Chinese pirated disks.
