port error

    I am getting a message called "run time error 8002" port not open , or device not open. sometimes the message is run time error 8012, invalid port number, or device not open.
    does anyone have any info on these messages?
    win 2ooo pro
    com 1 and com 2 enabled and no conflicts in device mgr
    no modem installed.

    Those errors should have been trapped by your event logs. Application log probably.

    If so, find a couple, open them up, click on the button below the up/down arrows (which will copy a text-only version of the error) and post them here.

    If not, make sure you are set to audit everything (successes, failures, informational, etc.) and after the errors happen again, post a copy here.

    Runtime errors are caused when a program has trouble doing a specific action and may well not indicate any issues with your com ports but simply with the program having trouble dealing with them.
