When I click on open in new tab I sometimes get a popup that states: The connection was refused when attempting to contact
ad.doubleclick.net. Here is a URL where that happenes on my system: http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,3959,502682,00.asp

I will have to click OK on that popup a couple of times before I can continue browsing. Would like not to be notified and not have to click the OK box. Any ideas or does this happen to everyone?

I have also gotten the popup message:
The connection was refused when attempting to contact
service.bfast.com. With that pop up and clicking OK - -I will
just get a blank page for the opening of new tab. Whatever page was going to load just doesn't.

Is this the result of the adblocker.xpi?? Does everyone get those pop up boxes???

    Thanks donna

The adblocker.xpi does not do this. All it does is restore the ability to block pop-up ads.

The pop-up is because the connection to them is down or extremely slow. I get this also on occasion. Netscape uses this instead of the page not found error that Microsoft uses. This is actually the only thing I am not wild about with Netscape/Mozilla. I would prefer a page not found error as in IE.

The one from Doubleclick, can be solved by installing the bannerblind xpi. This strips out the banner ads they use, which was what caused the problem with doubleclick. I very rarely get them since installing it.

For the problem with the bfast service site, this is probably one of two things, either the site is having difficulty, or it is waiting for a specific browser version and does not recognize Netscape 7.

    Hi Donna,

This has nothing to do with adblocker.xpi.

I'm suspecting this has to do with your HOSTS file. Look in C:\ or do a find for HOSTS. Not HOSTS.SAM or LMHOSTS.SAM.

If it's there, rename the file to XHOSTS, then try the site again and see if the same popup appears.

The web site is trying to call the AD server by this code:
    "<iframe SRC= "http://ad.doubleclick.net/adi/eweek.dart/labs;sz=468x60;ord=9588695765?" width= "468" height= "60" frameborder= "no" border= "0" MARGINWIDTH= "0" MARGINHEIGHT= "0" SCROLLING= "no" hspace= "0 ">

    <a HREF= "http://ad.doubleclick.net/jump/eweek.dart/labs;abr=!ie;sz=468x60;ord=9588695765?" TARGET= "_top "><img SRC= "http://ad.doubleclick.net/ad/eweek.dart/labs;abr=!ie;sz=468x60;ord=9588695765?" border= "0" height= "60" width= "468" hspace= "0 ">
    </a></iframe>"

You can see this yourself by selecting VIEW|Page Source.

If the connection is refused, NS7 alerts you, thus the window. I have no popup window when I view the site, so that's why I think you may have a HOSTS file.

Let us know what happens when you rename the HOSTS file.

I removed the hosts file and tried my link that I posted in the original message.
    No pop up about doubleclick.

Also tried another link that would bring up service.bfast.com - -and the page loaded. Problem solved!!

I have felt protected having a hosts program - -will try a few days without and see how many cookies, etc get set on this machine. Thanks

I am not sure I understand the above message. After installing the adblocker is there something else I must do to block pop-ups - -do I need an additional entry in the user.js

Thank you for the suggestion about the banner blocker. Does this program have an uninstall??
I am learning not to install any more xpi files because they do not uninstall- -for example, the mozpreferencer.xpi does not work with Netscape 7.0 on my system. I cannot remove it.

Once you have installed the adblocker, you will need to go to your preferences in the advanced section. Go in the scripts & windows section and uncheck the Open Unrequested Windows.

Now go over to www.netscape.com and see if the pop-up comes up.

There is no uninstaller for bannerblind, so do what I do, copy the entire Netscape Folder over to a second folder on the system as a backup before installing an xpi. I also make a backup of my prefs.js also.
