Having a problem with Outlook, (multiple versions), removing emails from a pop3 server. Under the Advanced Tab of Internet email settings, I do not have the "leave a copy of messages on the server" box checked, but I continue to receive duplicate email. I've tried re-installing Outlook, but it appears that something in the user profile is corrupt, because the problem persists. If I retrieve the email from another machine it does delete the mail from the server which tells me it is something in the machine or the Outlook profile. I've tried google, but have not found this specific problem on searches.
    Any help??

The RFC for POP3 dictates that deletions won't occur until a successful end of session (for the normal user after retrieving mail). I've had similar issues with my mailbox in the past when an email has become stuck (timeouts/corruptions etc).

If you have access to your mailbox via webmail you should be able to determine the offending email and delete from there. There are other solutions but webmail is by far the easiest.

Please let us know if this helps, or if you require another solution.

EDIT: I'll stress ttimeouts for stuck mails, when trying other machines are you using the same internet connection?

Yes, I can delete the email via webmail, something that I really don't want to do. I have checked for anything "stuck ", but this is not the case.
Also, using the same internet connection for both machines.
(The only "semi-solution" I've found so far is to check the box to leave the email on the server and select "for 1 day ". I will get the duplicates for 1 day, and then the previous days get deleted. I contacted the hosting company, but they insist it is the specific machine, and I tend to believe them since moving the account to a different machine causes things to work normally)

Fair enough Alby, and welcome to WindowsBBS BTW.

I've asked this thread to be moved to Microsoft Mail where others may have a solution.

Are you getting dupes on one machine or are you talking about getting the same mail on another machine?

The duplicates are on one machine. If I set the account up on another machine, I do NOT get duplicates, meaning they properly get removed from the mail server.

    Something with OUTLOOK...

Well, if I use Outlook Express on the same, (problem), machine using the same account, it works fine, no duplicates. But if I go back to Outlook, I get the same problem. How can I completely rid outlook of all its settings, obviously just a re-install does not do this, as I have tried????

Which version of Outlook are you using and have you applied all of the service packs and updates?

I've had this happen on two different machines: Office XP 2002 and Office Basic 2003.
I believe those versions are no longer available for updates.

How do I know if I have the latest update? I recall going to office.microsoft.com in the past, but the link to check for updates no longer exists?
    Thanks

If you open any office app and click on Help->ABOUT it'll say some like SP3....Both of the versions you have have at lease three service packs.

    That's It!!

    Steve,
Thank-you for the suggestion!! I found Service Pack 3 for Office XP and it appears that fixed the problem. When I re-installed Office that put me back to Service Pack 1; therefore, I needed the fix for this problem which apparently is included in the latest SP. Finally, this was getting to be a thorn in my side.
    Thanks Again for your help!!
