I have Pop Up Killer on my computer -- but -- and, if you're not familiar with it, it sounds like a little explosion. The last few days, my computer sounds like a war zone -- with automatic weapons. What in the world did I do to cause so many pop ups and is there anything I can do to stop them. Thanks!

    Yes!

I use PopUp Killer and I think it is the best because it is so basic stops all. Does take interaction to turn off and on but I still like.

    So!

You may have Spy/Adware locally on your computer trying to popup other and extra ads. You will always have some popups and more depending on the specific sites you visit!

So to clean the ones on your computer d/l install and run the below:

    Spyware and adware removal

    http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download

    http://www.lavasoftusa.com/downloads.html

Always run SpyBot first and run it twice. Select everything but leave what it wants to leave after second run.

    The run Adaware.

If you are running the same version of Popup Killer v1.2 as me and the sounds are annoying. I went into the control panel, sounds, and had to search for the sound linked to popup killer, then disabled it..

Thank you both! 20 minutes of running those two programs and then disabling my sound. AHHHHHH what a relief!!!
Now... just wondering... why did suddenly the pop up war begin in my computer? I've always had some pop ups, but I'm telling you.... this machine gun number of pop ups was really something. I'd like to figure out where I went or what I did to get them all.
At least, now I know what to do if it happens again. Your help is much appreciated.

Of course the sound is gone, you turned it off!

I disagree about tuning it completely off.

In this case it actually alerted you that you had a bad problem by sounding off so much. Instead of ocassionally!

Normally I only get an ocasional sound. Depends on the site. It is easy to turn off on a particular site.

Now you don't even know if you are having the same popup problem and won't untill you click a link that is stoped.

Probably 98% of your problems went when you cleaned the Spy/Adware.

I would reenable the sound and I think you will see a big difference. You want to hear an ocasional sound just to let you know it is working. Or maybe it is time to clean again (Spybot and Adaware).

If it is still to much then turn it off! If it is still very noisy then maybe we should look at what you have in startup.
