I think this may be a sony vaio issue rather than a windows 7 issue.

I mentioned this briefly on another thread on a different subject.

The pointer will immediately jump out of a text box and go to another application, or go somewhere else within the same application.

Sony has a driver download, so it is aware of the problem, but after downloading the new driver, the problem continues. This is why I have put this in Other Software.

I am trying going into control panel to devices, and disabling the touch pad and screen touch features as well as the sensitivity features.

I have also noticed the problem occurs when I use the search function when a txt file is open but the problem also occurs on websites. So far I have not noticed it with OpenOffice applications.

    any suggestions appreciated.

Your specs don't say what touchpad you have.

I cannot find the make or model of the touchpad.

On this page I found this:

    http://sonyvaiodriver.com/sony-vaio-vpcf1390x-windows-7-64-bit-drivers/

Pointing Device: "Alps Pointing Device, but this may be the external mouse I just bought.

In device manager, I see the label "Human Interface Devices" but this is listed as USB device, and I am unaware if a touchpad is a USB device.

I got this response on pointer jumping from from Sony support:

Thank you for contacting Sony Support.

I understand that the cursor moves erratically in the computer. Since you are using an external mouse, you can disable the touchpad. Follow the steps to disable the touchpad in the computer:

    1. Click the Start button, then click VAIO Control Center.
    2. In the VAIO Control Center window, click the categories tab.
    3. On the Categories tab, click the Plus (+) symbol next to keyboard and mouse .
    4. Under Keyboard and Mouse , double-click Built-in Pointing Device .
    5. In the Built-in Pointing Device window, click to clear the Enable box.
    6. Click the OK button.
    7. In the Built-in Pointing Device dialog box, click the Yes button.

If you wish to keep the touchpad enabled, I suggest that you install the Touchpad Settings Update, disable the touchpad features and configure to hide the pointer. I have provided a link below to download and install the Touchpad Settings Update in the computer. This should resolve the issue:

I have also provided a link where you can review the steps to disable the touchpad features and configure to hide the pointer:

Below is a link whwre you can view the steps to hide the pointer:
