I ordered a simple signaling UPS cable which is USB to RJ45. When I plug it in, can I plug it into the secondary USB port, or should it go to the primary?

It's difficult to say - some USB devices only work if plugged directly to the mobo - primary port and do not work if plugged into a secondary port - front ports 'wired' to mobo, others don't seem to mind.

I think it's a question of the power available at each port.
