I have a dual processor PIII/1GHz on an i815 chipset, mobo supports AGP 4x. RAM is at 384MB, I'm happy with that and feel that it's not necessary to crank it to max of 512MB. O/S is XP.

Currently I have a Riva TNT2 (non-ultra, Viper v770) that has 32MB RAM, not sure of RAMDAC speed. I'm looking to spend between $50-$100 and looked around online. Seems for that price I should be able to get a good GeForce3/4 card, but don't know how much memory I need.

The computer runs fine now, but I'm sure it would help to increase the speed/amount of RAM on the card itself. I think I need the card for betting gaming purposes but not much else. Thoughts/suggestions are welcome please!

A GF3 or GF4 is a very good choice if you're a gamer. You should be fine with 64MB of video ram but absolutely go no lower than that. 128MB might be more future-proof but is definitely out of your indicated price range.

Gainward and Leadtek make fabulous GF3s and GF4s. I recommend that you order from newegg (an online vendor with unbeatable prices and service) or at least find a highly recommended vendor at www.resellerratings.com .

Keep in mind that the GF3s and even more so that GF4s do draw alot of power so if your power supply is on the wimpy side you might have to upgrade - just fyi.

About 6 months ago I picked up a Visiontek GF3 Ti 200 for only $79. The card rocks but the company went belly up. But chances are the card will outlive many of the smaller pets in my neighborhood- we have roving bands of coyotes!
