I am at the end of my rope on this one. I installed an EPO DVD-8216 DVD16X/CDROM40X dvd drive on my WIN XP machine. The machine is fairly new(3 month old Dell) , is very fast, up to date etc.

The problem is , I cannot get the DVD to test out better than 2.04X or the CD to test out better than 24X. I have tried every DMA , IDE driver, ASPI layer, you name it around. I started with Busmaster (XP basic) I moved to Ultra ATA. Then Intel Application accelrator. Even INtel has tried to help.

All information says this thing should be running at UDMA - 2 speeds...But it doesn't. This is the second device. The only thing I haven't tried is another brand.

Any thoughts ? This is getting crazy....Right now, I have made so many changes that the rest of my machine is running like LIGHTNING. All except this drive.

    Thanks in advance.....Rob A

the problem you are probably seeing is the CD or DVD wasn't burn at that speed, so it won't be able to test at that speed. Most DVD's are 2x today, most CD's are 16x, but some are starting to come out at 24x. But to remain compatible with slower systems, OEM's and other manufacturers burn the CD's at slower speeds.
