First you need to create a new folder and put HijackThis.exe in it. Scan again and fix these.

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
    R3 - URLSearchHook: URLSearch Class - {965A592F-8EFA-4250-8630-7960230792F1} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\cdsm32.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mqvqdkjyqsnqs] C:\WINDOWS\System32\sjucug.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [alchem] C:\WINDOWS\alchem.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [fash] C:\WINDOWS\fash.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\MSMSGS.EXE" /background
    O16 - DPF: {12589FA1-C456-11CE-BF01-10AA1055595A} - http://www.wsel.net/imcupdatefiles/whistlesilent610.cab

End process on the following tasks in task manager.

    sjucug.exe
    alchem.exe
    fash.exe
    realsched.exe

Navigate to and delete the files in bold. If undeletable, download and install Move-on-Boot. You will have a new right click option to delete on next boot. Use it on each of the files.

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\sjucug.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\alchem.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\fash.exe

    Open C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB and rename realsched.exe to realsched.old.

    Disable system restore.
You will need to show hidden files and folders.
Open C:\Windows\Prefetch, select all and delete.
Open C:\Windows\Temp, select all and delete.
Open C:\Documents and settings\username\Local Settings\temp, select all and delete. Do this for all usernames.
Open My Computer, right click Local disk C: and choose properties, then disk cleanup. Check all boxes except compress old files and OK.
    Reboot and enable system restore.

Make and post a new log.

Dave/Lonnie - in learning mode here. It's odd to not see any R0 entries. Is that normal after a fix under some circumstances?

Thought I'd beaten the spyware... but its back

You guys helped me clean out my registery the other day, but I'm still getting ads served to me. Can't find my old thread, but can you check my HijackThis log now?

Edit Note: I located your original thread and merged this into it. Easier since it provides all the needed background. If you even 'lose' a thread again, you can click on the username in the left col. and select the option to find other threads by the same user. Works well unless you try it with a regular who has tons of posts and then it isn't much fun. Still works but takes a long time to load. Newt

Do you recognize or use this?

O8 - Extra context menu item: Shorten URL - http://www.cjb.net/menuext.html

If not fix it. If you use cjb.net, suggest you read their privacy policy, mainly under advertising.

And the one Lonny pointed out?

    O4 - Global Startup: Search.vbs

A feature you use or a nasty?

What type of ads? Do they by chance say Messenger service? If so, start>run and type services.msc, hit enter. locate messenger in the list, right click and stop, then right click and properties. Set to disabled.

I would be interested in the contents of Search.Vbs. JSears, if you would, when you find Search.Vbs, before you delete it. Right click on it and select Edit, it should open in Notepad, and post it in a Private Message to me. But, don't double click it, it will be executed by Wscipt.Exe.
