    Hi.

Over the last few weeks, occasionally my computer will just shut down. But it's weird, it doesn't completely shut down, this little green light keeps blinking. I was thinking maybe it was some kind of safety shut down, but I didn't know what the problem would be.

Anyway, today this started happening more frequently. I was barely getting into Windows before it would shut down. Then, suddenly I started getting this error:

"lsass.exe - An invalid parameter was passed to a service or function. "

    Then it restarts.

I can't even get into windows with safe mode.

I did a search here and found a few posts about similar problems with lsass.exe, but I thought maybe with the other things going on with my comp someone might have some idea what is going on and what I can do about it, if anything. Thanks for any ideas.

Due to the gradually worsening state of affairs, be sure to do a full virus scan.

If you have a Compaq or HP computer, read here for information on a patch:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329450
(It appears that recovery on HP or Compaq requires a format and reinstall :(. Since this problem is so common, maybe they have a better idea.)

If you have recently installed SP1, you may want to uninstall it or do a repair installation with a full, SP1, slipstreamed CD:
    http://www.windows-help.net/WindowsXP/winxp-sp1-bootcd.html
    and others.

Thank you guys very much, especially for that article. A question though, what is ntfsdos? Also, am I supposed to be following all of these directions from within dos? If so, can someone point me to a source that has instructions on how to do dos commands and syntax and everything. Thanks again.
