    PLEASE help! Problem with Outlook

    Hi,

All of a sudden, mysteriously, my Hotmail Inbox (in Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1082) was empty when I logged in this morning! I did not do anything to make this happen! This is the second time it has happened this year, last time in July. Writing to Hotmail is like talking to the walls:(

Now, I have the following files backed up from last week:

    Hotmail - Inbox.dbx 1803 KB
    Inbox.dbx 393 KB

I tried File | Import | Messages and chose MS Outlook Expree 6. and all that, to no avail:( The Inbox is still blank.

Can someone please help. Please feel free to email me at musiccollector_at_hotmail_dot.com

    Thanks.

Or maybe worse since a wall will at least give you an echo at times.

We have some hotmail experts on here so hopefully one will see this and help you out. Sorry but I've never used it and I'm surprised what you tried wouldn't work.

    Thanks.

I have a little more information now.

When I came home and launched Outlook on each of my home PCs, a 'teaser', if you will, came up with the headers of all the missing messages. They flashed for a few seconds, just enough for me to get a quick glimpse, and then disappeared. Same thing happened on both PCs from which I normally have accessed Hotmail through Outlook.

The sad part is that no matter how many more times I launched Outlook thereafter, it has not happened a second time:( All subsequent times, the Inbox launches empty. I have no idea where my messages have gone. I also have not seen any messages since yesterday - not even spam, which I am sure I get daily!

Once I get this fixed and recover, no more Hotmail for me. I will close my long time account and move to Alloymail or Yahoo. I know they don't care, but neither do I. I don't need a service that treats its customer like cattle. These services are a dime a dozen nowadays.

    Thanks.

So what happens when you log onto Hotmail directly via the web? Is your mail there?

No. I had immediately tried that route - by going to the Web. The Inbox was empty there, as well. And, I always try to delete/save large attachments immediately. But a large attachment arriving should not clear my Inbox, anyway!

I recall this happening when Hotmail decided to also run a "pay hotmail" account. The free hotmail has an account limit, and someone else posted here that when they went over their limit, all their mail disappeared.
