I have a Dell computer with XP home. The computer was running slow off and on for a few weeks. Yesterday, that blue screen came up that said a problem has been detected and I had the stop message with these characters, 0X0000008e (0xc0000005, 0x8060AB13, 0xF60eB9AC, 0x00000000). i called Dell and the only thing the technician tried was for me to run in safe mode and go into msconfig and disable all programs from startup, when that didn't work, he said I am going to have to install everything from the beginning, I would really like not to have to do that unless there is no other choice, I know a lot of people on these boards are very knowledgeable so I was hoping maybe you can guide me. Also, I noticed the day before this problem began, my windows media player kept popping up, could this have anything to do with my problems. Thanks so much for any help you can give me.

There are many references to this error on Google ....

    http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=0X0000008e

Was there anything else in that error message - reference to a driver, etc ??

You may get a clue by looking in Event Viewer - right click My Computer icon > Manage > Event Viewer > System and Application.

If you double click on an error message you will see more details - clicking on the icon below the up/down arrows will paste the message to the Clipboard. You can then paste it here.

You say that your PC has been running slowly - suggest you download Spybot and Ad-aware from my sig below, update their reference files and delete all they find.
