I have set up my desktop running W2K Pro with a netgear MR314 wireless router & I attached a netgear PC card MA401 to my notebook which runs under XP Home & now successfully share my DSL connection to the Internet.
QUESTION: How do I share files? I tried the XP network wizard BUT my desktop running W2K is not cooperating. I was told by someone that I can achieve my goal by enabling file sharing.
    Can someone please advise.
    Thank you.

This is what I did for Win98, not sure how close the instructions will be. First of all, go to Control Panel and double click on Network. On the Configuration tab, click on File and Print Sharing then select the options that you want.

Then go to My Computer and right click on your drive. Click on Sharing and pick the settings that you want.

As I said, this is for win98 since I don't have W2K. Hope this helps!

You will need to set up for file & printer sharing. It may be already since I think it is the default. If not, add it to the services. Also Client for Microsoft Networking.

The NT systems (NT4/2K/XP) all demand to know Who wants to connect. So you will either need to log on to both PCs using the same account (identical username and password) or put a copy of both the username/passwords you use on each computer. Otherwise, they will refuse connections even after you set up shares.

With the above done and assuming they are in the same workgroup (required to connect), the settings your router/switch assigns should allow connection.

The XP firewall will need to be disabled.

As a suggestion, the guest user account on the XP-Home PC is enabled by default. Disable it. Otherwise you have a nasty security hole that doesn't help you.
