Hi, I'm new to this forum and in need of much help. I'm managed to get Ceres pop-ups on my pc along with Buddy exe. I'm blaming the missus.
Anyway, can some one please help me delete these off. I've been reading the forum for help and have ran spybot / adaware in safemode. I've attached the hyjack notes after doing this. Hope this helps. If I do get a reply (please), can someone explain as simple as possible how to remove. Thanks in advance....

    Welcome to WindowsBBS slatkins37 :)

Copy the text in the quote box below to notepad and save it to your desktop. Right click the saved file and rename it to RemBegin2.reg Click yes to the are you sure prompt.

Scan again with HijackThis and place a check next to the following entries. Close ALL other windows and click fix.

Right click My Computer and choose properties. On system restore tab, check the box to turn off. OK out.

Go to start>run and type msconfig, hit enter. On the boot.ini tab, check the box next to /safeboot and OK. DO NOT allow it to restart.

Download Pocket Killbox from here: http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip

Unzip the files to a folder, then open and double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. In the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste the following:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\netsync.exe

Check the box to delete on reboot and click the red X to the right. Click OK, then NO to reboot now. Copy the next filepath and paste it in the box, and repeat the above steps. When all of the below filepaths are done, allow it to reboot.

    C:\windows\system32\sdvitqr.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\farmmext.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\reg6523.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\winb2s32.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\dsktrf1.dll

When your comptuer restarts, it will be in safe mode. Logon to your user account. You will need to show hidden files and folders, as well as system files.

Double click the RemBegin2.reg file and allow it to merge into the registry. This will remove the registry entries created by one of the infections.

I don't see any sign of buddy.exe, but this would be a good time to do a file search of the drive and delete it if found.
Open C:\Temp if present, select all and delete.
Open C:\Windows\Temp, select all and delete.
Open C:\Windows\Prefetch, select all and delete.
Open C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\temp, select all and delete. Do this for all usernames.
Open the control panel, then internet options and delete the temporary internet files, checking the box for offline content.
Open My Computer, right click Local disk C: and choose properties, then disk cleanup. Check all boxes except compress old files and OK.
Uncheck the /safeboot box in msconfig and ok to reboot.

Scan your PC with RAV. If any files are infected, click the report button then copy and paste it here.

Run another HijackThis scan and post the log.

My error on the reg merge file. Sorry :( Right click the file and choose edit. Change the word Regedit4 to REGEDIT4 (all caps) and close. Save the changes. Now double click it to merge.

Scan again with HJT and remove the following.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sdvitqr] c:\windows\system32\sdvitqr.exe

Reboot, surf a bit and then scan again. Post the new log.

    Deleting Ceres / Buddy.exe

    Dave,
Can't thankyou enough for all your help!!!. Surfing internet for 10-15 mins with no pop-ups. This has saved me hours, as would have ended up rebuilding pc.

I've attached latest hyjack info...hope all looks clean...

Good work! Looks clean. Re-enable System Restore and create a manual restore point.

Also recommend you open Spybot and click mode on the toolbar, then advanced mode. Click immunize in the left pane, then immunize again, this time from above with the green + beside it. Click the link below that for SpywareBlaster, download, install, enable all protection and update. Check for updates regularly. Then, still in Spybot, click tools button, then IE tweaks and at least lock the HOSTS file.
    Then download and install IESpyad.

That will give you some added layers of protection against unwanted parasites.

    Glad I could help. :)

    Welcome to WindowsBBS microclubdj:)

Scan again with HijackThis and place a check next to the following entries. Close ALL other windows and click fix.

    O2 - BHO: CeresObj Class - {00000049-8F91-4D9C-9573-F016E7626484} - C:\WINDOWS\Ceres.dll
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2CDE1A7D-A478-4291-BF31-E1B4C16F92EB} - (no file)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [anyuapgfl] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dieckori.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [farmmext] C:\WINDOWS\farmmext.exe
    O16 - DPF: {62475759-9E84-458E-A1AB-5D2C442ADFDE} - http://a1540.g.akamai.net/7/1540/52...meInstaller.exe
    O16 - DPF: {F5192746-22D6-41BD-9D2D-1E75D14FBD3C} (ddm_download.ddm_control) - http://download.rfwnad.com/cab/crack.CAB

If you didn't add this to the trusted site, fix it also.
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.line6.net

    Reboot to safe mode.

Now in safe mode, you will need to show hidden files and folders, as well as system files and extensions for known file types.

Open C:\WINDOWS and delete the file farmmext.exe.
Open C:\WINDOWS\system32 and delete the file dieckori.exe.
    Open C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB and rename realsched.exe to realsched.old
Open C:\Temp if present, select all and delete.
Open C:\Windows\Temp, select all and delete.
Open C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\temp, select all and delete. Do this for all usernames.
Open the control panel, then internet options and delete the temporary internet files, checking the box for offline content. Close Internet Options. Then, still in the control panel, open the Java Plug-in, click the cache tab and then clear.
Open My Computer, right click Local disk C: and choose properties, then disk cleanup. Check all boxes and click OK.

Reboot back into windows and scan your PC with RAV. If any files are infected, click the report button then copy and paste it here.

Go to the Sun Java Website and update your JRE. Current is 1.4.2_07

Run another HijackThis scan and post the log.

Also recommend you go to your control panel, then to add/remove programs...uninstall P2P networking...If/when asked whether you also want to remove Altnet components, say 'Yes'.
P2P Networking is a totally useless add-on, and it's been reported to be responsible for serious system slowdowns. Reboot when done and delete the P2P Networking folder in C:\WINDOWS\system32.

Looks like I still have some funk on there according to the RAV report. What next? (And man, thanks so much for your time!).

Log looks clean. Just need to locate those infected files and delete, then empty the recycle bin. What else is in that C:\Program Files\ddm\386 directory? If none of it looks familiar from ddm, delete the ddm folder. Looks very suspect.

I would also suggest you make sure you are up-to-date with Windows Updates.

    Recommendation

Do you have Spybot Version 1.3? If not, download it from my signature and install. Allow it to load SD Helper. Open it up and click mode on the toolbar, then advanced mode.

    Got It!!!!

I did everything you said exactly. Ceres.dll, the bane of my existence for the last few weeks, is GONE, GONE, GONE! And I can't believe how fast websites are loading now. Man, it was like my connection was trudging through mud before. I don't mean to overkill on the praise, but thanks again! I am a completely changed computer user now. Empowered more than before, and oh so much more aware....and SAFER!
