    If you know the extension of the files you are having problems with, i.e. BMP, and JPEG, you might want to take a look at the programs that the problem extensions are associated with. To do this;

    Click on Start, Programs, Windows Explorer. When the Explorer window opens click on the View Menu, select Folder Options.

    When the Folder Option opens click on File Types, scroll down to the extension, for example BMP, and highlight it. At the bottom of the window should be an area that says "Opens With ". For the BMP file extension the default program is MSPAINT.

    To change the program that is assigned to open a given extension;

    Find a file on your computer with that extension, highlight the file, and while holding down the SHIFT key RIGHT click on it to open a pop-up menu. From the pop-up menu select OPENS WITH.

    From the "Opens With" window scroll down to the proper progam, select it and make sure that there is a checkmark in the "Always use the Selected Program to Open this Kind of File" and then click OK. The selected extension is now associated with the program you assigned.

    Hope this is what you were looking for. :)
