hi. right i will place this into context- i had a problem with a boot file with my laptop so as a result i booted with the recovery disk and fixed the problem- however the system recovery only went as far as 70% before it stopped 4 some unexplained reason, i tried this again and the same thing happened. however the bootfile that was playing up was fixed within the 70%. nows the problem as soon as i rebooted my machine it asked me to select my languages and register as i did when i bought the pc. so i made a new account name and when it opened it had the majority of programs and apps from my first account still there- but most of these don't work. there is a folder in the documents and settings folder that is the named with the same name as my own(first) account, but when i select this it denies me access eventhough i set this new account as the computer administrator. i am unable to find a way to sign in as my original account, because when i enter the username and password it tells me that it is not recognised. But my data and saved docs from this account r still there cos my harddrive is still half full. i need any help on how i could retrieve this data or preferably how i can get windows to recognise my old account.

any help would b very much appreciated

    thanks.

trying booting into safe more under administrator and rename your new sign on name as username.old and rename your old one as your new sign on name. because you reinstalled windows, your registry doesn't realize you're sign on name exists. try that. 75% chance it will work.

Do a search here on "Taking Ownership ", that's what you want to do.
