Please bare with me... only boots w/CD in drive!

What did I do wrong? I've been fighting this thing for a couple days now... a friend had 98 on this and I tried putting 2000 on but then found she had XP disc also, so thought might as well put that on than 98... now I've installed it completely and took the CD out of the drive and when it boots it gives me two OS choices 2000/XP... I formatted the drive to wipe out 2000 but it still shows up on the list and XP won't start up unless the CD is in the drive!

Please can someone help me? I would really appreciate it!!!

You will likely need to run the FIXBOOT command from the Recovery Console.

Just boot to the Install CD and choose the first "R" option offered and you should be able to get the job done. When you get the command prompt screen, type FIXBOOT and press enter. As an added repair, also type FIXMBR and press enter. Reboot without the CD and hope...

You may be able to benefit from the BOOTCFG command as well since it will edit your boot.ini file if needed.
