I have created video files in Windows movie maker under Windows xp.

When I post these videos to my web site readers complain that they cannot open the files.

I only get this complaint from Windows 7 users.

What do i need to do ?

Hi Larry. If your website readers can't play the files make sure that the files aren't corrupted on your end. If the files are ok then instruct your readers to download and install the K-Lite Codec Pack prior to downloading the WMV files.

The files I don't think are corrupted. They will play using Windows media player and quicktime.

You can find the file here:

The file plays fine on my computer.

When your website readers say they can't open the file what type of error message do they get?

Do they play the file with Windows Media Player or an alternative media player?

Like I said in my last post I would tell your readers that are experiencing problems, to install the K-Lite Codec Pack. Installing the codec pack normally will resolve most problems like this.

I cant really answer your question. Both viewers were using windows 7. They claimed that they were getting a error stating "cannot open file ".

At first I thought maybe they did not have a media player installed on there computer. One viewer had just gotten his computer with windows 7. The other has been around for awhile.

When I uploaded the file to You Tube they both could view the files.

Who knows what is going on.

    Hmm. Thats puzzling.

Well there isn't anything else that I can offer to help resolve this issue other than having your readers install the codec pack and then seeing if they can play the files. Its worth a shot.

Thanks for your input. I have posted the videos in You tube and it seemed to take the problem away for now.

    Thanks again...

Works just fine in my Win7 with default Windows Media Player. You viewers will not need any additional codecs such as k-lite. Perhaps their comps are misconfigured.

FYI, you can embedd the youtube video right on your site.

They need proper codecs installed on their computers. I have Win7codec package and no problems with playing videos on my Win7.
