    Hi guys,

I am going to try to explain the situation as much as I can..We have a win2003 server which we use as a DHCP in out network with the address .50 address..We tried to put another DHCP with 2003 server as DHCP for redundancy with an address, .49 (in the same network with the same netmask) problem is that we can ping the .50 from .49 ....actually we can ping anywhere in the network from .49
However nobody can ping the server with the address .49 .....as soon as I restart the .49 server, right before it completely shuts itself down, .50 starts to be able to ping .49
.50 can still ping it until the .49 fires up and gives us the error message "at least one service or driver has failed to initialize ".....When I click ok and let the windows load, I see the problem remains... "Only one way ping "

what could be the problem? i hope this helped a little bit to understand the issue..

    thanks in advance

Are you sure the .49 address isn't used already? Have you excluded your server addresses from your DHCP scope? Have you tried another address?

If it isn't an address allocation problem, the next thing to look at is firewall settings.

Also check your event viewer logs for services that aren't starting correctly. If you don't recognise the error code in event viewer, google search on it: that usually gives you useful information.

    Splendid! Excellent news.

I can't keep track of the times I've spent time tracking down and dealing with the individual symptoms of a problem, only to realise that at the end of the process the system is still fragile, and it would have been quicker to wipe it and reinstall at the start of the process.
