In WinXP where do I enter the ping command?

In '98 I would go to DOS in Windows, type ping: xxxxxx.com and <E>. However, in XP when going to the command prompt I can ping localhost, but when I try any .com address I get an error.

Command prompt is the right place for the ping command. What do you get when you type the following line exactly and hit enter:

    ping www.yahoo.com

My error, I was entering a colon after ping. (Worked fine in 98, though).

    Thanks!
