    Hello,

Just bought my wife a new Win 8 computer. She has asked me to place shortcuts to facebook and hotmail on the start page but doesn't want to use the people tile. I've spent several hours searching and reading the help files and microsoft claims that a right click on any web page brings up an option list that includes a "pin to start page" option or a bottom screen pop up with a pin command. However, anytime I right click on facebook or any other web page, there is no "pin" command despite what the Win 8 help video claims.

Could anyone offer a suggestion on what to do to get this functionality to work? It's Win 8 on an Asus touchscreen ultrabook and I let it update 3 times before it quit asking to download. Any suggestions on how to pin web pages would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Todd

Thank you for the suggested links. I had already looked at the first one with no luck. When I checked the second link, I found this topic

"Pin to the Windows 8 Start Menu Screen

You can also take any icon or folder from the desktop and right-click to Pin to Start. "

It goes on to show a screen shot with "Pin to Start" as one of the options. When I try to do a right click on a desktop icon that I set up to open facebook in a browser, that option is not listed. In fact, I seem to be unable to find a "Pin to Start" option for any desktop icons, including the Firefox icon that is on the desktop and the start page.

Is there a setting that I might be missing or have turned off that could be the problem?

    Thanks.

OK, I didn't look a any of the videos, so don't know what they show, but found it in a few sec...

If you are running IE from the Desktop, once you have Facebook (or whatever site you want to pin) open, click the Alt button on your keyboard. This will toggle IE's Menu Bar. Now select the Tools menu & click Add site to Start Screen.

    Done!

If you are running the Modern UI ( "Metro ") version of IE it's also easy: click the Pin site button & select Pin to Start.

Thank you for the ALT tip. I tried it with IE and it brought up the tools/pin option. However, it didn't work for Firefox.

One thing I haven't seen is the black option bar at the bottom of your screen shot. Is there a way to adjust a setting so it is active? It would make life a great deal easier.

Thanks to both of you for your help.

Firefox doesn't have that ability (yet?)

You'll just right-click in the IE window to bring up the "Navigation bar ". You can also press the Windows key + Z.

The window + Z works. Thanks for mentioning it, I looked up other shortcuts through the help functions.

I appreciate all of your help and suggestions.
