Ok I have read several posts here about a white box with a red X and clicked on every link that was posted on those post and also done my own searching and still have not found a solution.

Running Windows 98se, regardless of browser (IE6, Netscape, Mozilla) when I open browser all it gives is the red x where the picture is suppose to be. When I right click the picture to show picture this is the message I am getting.
"Alert.... The connection was refused when attempting to contact a1540.g.akamai.net "
All my settings are set to default in internet options. Encoding is set to Western European. I have run virus scan, ad aware, hijack this, SFC.exe, windows update is current. I have redownloaded VM and java as suggested in other posts. However, none of this has fixed the problem.
What am I doing wrong and how do I fix it?

This may work if you've tried everything else. Run regedit and navigate to registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\PROTOCOLS\Name-Space Handler

To be on the safe side make a copy of the keys before deleting them, viz, File, Export and backup the two keys: http and ftp.

Right click and delete both http and ftp.
