This is NOt a serious problem and don't want anyone wasting a lot of their time on it, but I seem to get a" period" in the body of a message when composing. I have to say that it is rather erratic and doesn't happen all the time. It seems to happen when I am replying to a message that I've received. The first few times, I thought that perhaps I had hit the period key in my haste, but it isn't that and it's beginning to drive me NUTS.

I spend more time trying to get rid of it, than I do actually typing the message.

    :cool

    Hi vegaspat,

Exactly where in the email does the decimal point appear? This is indeed strange...

I first notice it as I'm typing a reply. It's between my text and the beginning of the message I am replying to.

As I said before. No big deal. If no one else has experienced this, I must be nuts. It was just starting to really bug me.

    Hi vegaspat
Save your psychiatrist visit, your just as sane (insane ?) as the rest of us. I have experienced the identical sitation you have. Very infrequently, no pattern. My only quick solution, delete the screen and open a new screen. There has been times I been able to get rid of it, the trick is, you have to get the "." (period) to move down a line. It seems to hang tough at the top left start point of the screen. Like you, no biggy, just one of them things that keeps d r i v i n g you closer to the e d g e. But never mind, I'm just fine!!

    Dennis,

    Thank goodness!!

That little sucker takes some real work getting rid of. You can't just backspace or delete it. I pretty well have it down to a science.

Now that I know it's not me, I think I can live with it until someone figures it out.

Guess I am the only one stupid enough to post about something as petty as this?

Hey now... no post on this Forum is considered stupid . If someone else experiences this "Phantom" then they will know they aren't the only one!

Post away, no matter how trivial.

    vegaspat and Dennis,
    Do you use Windows XP?
Do you also have the smooth edge of screen fonts on? If so do you use Standard or ClearType?

I have some problem (NS 6/7 in WinXP with ClearType), and mainly in Text area (form), had more in NS6 then now NS7.

Just wonder is the Windows XP's new font smooth technology cause the problem.

I've had this occur in w95 / 7.01 preview using ClearType.
Has occured using XP / 7.01 final NOT using ClearType.
Since turning on ClearType in XP about a month ago, problem has not occured.
Keep in mind, for me this is such a low occurance problem that I can not repeat.

    Anthony,

I use XP, but don't know what you mean about the fonts. I haven't done any formatting since installing Netscape 7.1

If I should change something, just let me
    know.

    Thanks.

    Dennis,
    Thanks for info.

    vegaspat,
In Display Properties, Appearance | Effects,
then you will have options to not to use font smoothing, standard method, or ClearType method.
Can you have a quick check?
(You might also want to enable those for your better experience.)

Please note: ClearType is designed for laptop users.
