Anybody got a take on the new Google privacy policies?

I haven't bothered to read it.... Honestly I use Chrome, Google Search, Gmail, so I'm sure they already have lots of info on me (I also use Google's image search and Google books).

I basically just assume that anything I do online is gonna get tracked, or is trackable, and so I make sure that if I have any communications with, say, Pakistani nuclear scientists, that it all remains offline.

Should I be worried? I recall reading about a European search company that was explicitly deleting all search queries, not storing any personal data, etc..... Anyone thinking of switching from Google search?

I always said that there is no privacy on line. What ever you do on line, there is a record of it. The only privacy you have is in your own home and only if you close the curtains.

The one I heard that is good is if you want privacy on your computer, disconnect it from the router/modem.

Even at that, you can still be tracked, but it's less likely.
